Littledale this week

Greetings fellow Strugglers,

Thought we might do "Littledale" this week. I've had it mind for some time.  It's  a Mile or two from Caton - East of Lancaster. I have dim memories of it being an attractive valley but really have no idea what it's like. Looks good on the map though. Not too long a walk,  5/6 miles, but its rather "Undulating"  Going North so meet at usual time and place ( Anthony's). Response is useful so that we don't wait for anyone who isn't coming

The Singing Ringing Tree & Townley Hall

The Singing Ringing Tree panopticon above Burnley

"Gi' uz a lick!"  (In front of Townley Hall)
Harry found his alpenhorn this week!

Once again, an attempt was made to thwart our walk! This time by a Golf Club. The public footpath across the golf course had been diverted without adequate signage. But being Meanderthals, and in the spirit of adventure and exploration, which built the British Empire, we eventually arrived at our destination!

Walk for Thursday 17th July

Hi All,

Great walk last Thursday. A solid trek (1000FT) up onto Grit Fell in hot sunshine. Pestered by clegs (until Doc  Martin produced a bottle of repellent ) All worth it for superb 360 degree vista. Yorkshire Dales (Three Peaks). Lake District and hints of Snowdonia and the Great Orme.  Nearer to ...the whole of the Fylde Coast, Winter Hill and Pendle.   All supported by the near horizon of the rolling curves of the Bowland fells. Wonderful.
Had considered Littledale this week (a valley leading into Bowland from the Lune.) but that is a return to Bowland (albeit very beautiful) but the weather forecast is VERY hot so maybe a coastal walk may be a bit fresher. Soooo.... Cockerham Abbey has recently been mooted and although we've done it a couple of times it may be a gentler walk after last weeks strenuous effort.  If I can come up with a better idea (or anyone else ???? ) I shall email you. Otherwise see you at Anthony's 9.30 as usual.
