MEANDERTHALS REMEMBER 1

WHO REMEMBERS 2nd Feb 2012 ?

An icy day in February 2012. We were walking over Bowland  near Fairsnape Fell. There was snow on the ground and an icy wind was blowing.

We stopped at Paddy's Pole for lunch but the bitter cold meant we didn't stop long before heading towar.ds Parlick Pike.. Only a few minutes later one of the Meanderthals collapsed and could not be revived. A "999" call soon had the air Ambulance on it's way and our casualty was whisked off to hospital.

All ended well after a dramatic day on the fells.

ISOLATION 6  GARDEN GATES

It is sometimes said that the queen thinks the world smells of fresh paint as wherever she goes everyone has given things a lick of paint in preparation.
It has been rather like that around here as boredom has made everybody turn to DIY. Fences, sheds, doors and gates are all looking fresh and bright after being painted.

Self isolation has even made me, an ant-DIY evangelist, turn to one or two "jobs". As far as I'm concerned DIY means breathing and eating. What else do you actually need to do yourself. (Well, I suppose, "begatting" in the dim and distant past) To me DIY = "Do Injure Yourself".
But I have been "Shamed" by over-keen neighbours into painting my garden gate (it was somewhat rusty)

Here are some rather smart gates.

You will have noticed that behind these lovely gates are equally lovely gardens (If you like neat , pretty gardens full of neat, pretty flowers)

As I was painting my gate. (having dealt with the rust)

One of our braver neighbours strolled over to tell me that everyone else had painted their gates BLACK !
With paintbrush poised I stood up and pointed out that my gate was one of the few originals left (nearly 100 years old) and the original colour was green and it would continue to be green.
"You do like to be different John." she said and scuttled rapidly away.

So.… here is my green gate (actually rather a pale shade ….but.)

….and that is my annual DIY effort  now completed.

THURSDAY CLAPPING

Clapping For Key Workers

After the first week of clapping for the NHS and other key workers the neighbours suggested I play some music. Reluctantly ('onest) I agreed. Playing by yourself is quite daunting. All the mistakes are YOURS !

So here I am "Twanging" outside my sisters house between the two terraces.  It seems to go down well but I feel acutely embarrassed doing it.

Finished off with "We'll Meet Again " last night. Yuckily sentimental but almost obligatory in the present situation and on the eve of V.E day.

Mike's Virtual Bike Ride!

Mike (The Bike) set off at the crack of dawn (well 7.21am to be precise) on a bike ride.
What you have to do is to work out, from his pictures, where he went.
The full trip was about 2 hours.
Apologies to any Meanderthals who are not familiar with the 'environs' of Preston.

1.  Set-off time

2.   The first well known landmark

3.   Looks familiar

4.   We all know it or the main part of it.

5.   Broughton but where?

6.   A very interesting farm

7.   Same farm but where am I standing?

8.  Recognise here?

9.  Bridge shot, rebuilt 4 weeks ago.

10.    On the bridge selfie

11.   Do you know this lane?

12.   Tree(s) of the week.

13.   This company keeps your house warm.

14.   Do you remember what used to be here?

15.   Zoom in to see where I am.

(Thanks Mike)
