Wycoller. More Photos

John, having struggled with his steering wheel as he drove passed Boundry Mill, brought his contingent safely to the lakeside car park of Ball Grove Nature Reserve.

Google informs us that Colne Corporation bought land around Wycoller in order to build a reservoir. Fortunately, a bore hole provided enough water to meet their needs, so the reservoir was never built. The Pump House was built to maintain a constant supply.

Arriving at the lovely village of Wycoller

The Atom

We had to scramble up the banking to make way for this horse and rider to pass along this narrow pathway

The nucleus of the atom

Back at Wycoller

The narrow pack horse bridge had deep ruts in the stone. Testimony to the centuries of continuous use. The walls of these bridges were omitted so that the horses with their large packs on either side could cross unimpeded.

There were a couple of houses up for sale in the village, for anyone with a couple of bob to spare.

The end of a great walk.

The autumn sun was low in the sky by now......

.....and we were blessed on the westward drive home, with a wonderful golden sunset.
