Clitheroe

Clitheroe, both rural and urban was the destination for this week's walk. 6 miles.

Walkers: Harry, Martin, John R, Danny, Paddy, Vic, Mike H and Anthony. (John W was having his knee attended to and new kitchen put in.)

We parked on the Pay & Display carpark at Edisford Bridge and followed part of the Ribble Way upstream through the Low Moor area of Clitheroe.

The weir on the River Ribble just below Waddow Hall.

Waddow Hall - the headquarters and activity centre of the
Girl Guides Association.

Leaving the river at Brungerley Bridge and following the road from Waddington into Clitheroe.

Morning coffee was taken in Brungerley Park with splendid views across the river to the Bowland Fells.

An 'art'(?) installation in Brungerley Park.
(It reminds me of a dixie of porridge at a scout camp!)

Spring flowers in the park

Into the town centre and our first stop was at the Anglican church of St. Mary Magdalen.
Unfortunately the church wasn't open to the public but it did provide a good place to have lunch.

The view from the churchyard to Longridge Fell (Kemple End) and, to the right, Beacon Fell and Parlick Pike.

One of three wells, which provided the town with fresh water.

Part of Clitheroe Grammar School's Sixth Form Centre.

The Grand Theatre - Home to the annual Blues Festival

'The Dog' is the oldest pub in Clitheroe and the site of another well. (Is that why pubs are called 'watering holes'?

The interior of the Catholic church of St. Michael & St. John on Lowergate.

Pendle Hill from the castle

The Keep - One of the smallest in the country.
