Ascent of Haystacks 6 miles 1820 ft

Crossing the bridge over Gatesgarthdale Beck

Starting the Ascent from the Buttermere side. The bright winter sunshine casting long shadows on the fellside.

Looking back to the farm, from where my walk started.

Rounding the end of Haystacks, Kirkfell and Great Gable on the opposite side of the valley come into view.

Much of the north side of Haystacks has been fenced off. The south side is well on the way to being fenced off also, in an attempt to keep walkers to the official paths. The end of the fence
can be seen on the top right of the photo.

On the summit.

Looking back to High Cragg. Crummock Water and Ennerdale Water can be seen to the right and left respectively.

A couple, on holiday from North Allerton agreed to take my photo by the cairn, provided I agreed to take theirs. Buttermere and Crummock Water in the back ground.

Setting of back down, after passing Black Beck Tarn, and rounding Green Crag, the well constructed path turned upwards again.

Another passing couple were co-opted for another scenic shot down the valley

The path down was on the opposite side of the valley, skirting the lower reaches of Fleetwith Pike, but first I had to cross Warnscale Beck. One of two impressive waterfalls on the way down.

The path down, running along side the Beck.

The path ends at the road from Honister, close to the car park.
