PRESTON RENDEZVOUS

A GATHERING !

PARTICIPANTS :-  Anthony, Martin, Danny, John R, Dave.
Vic, Jim C, Paddy, Harry, Mick
Mike. John W and of course JAMES

It was a quiet day in Preston.

On the wall of the Harris Museum was a poster.    Perhaps a warning !

I entered the museum and there in the café was Foucault's Pendulum swinging slowly and serenely as it should.    No alarms.  All was well with the world...…..

 OR WAS IT  ?

From every point of the compass ancient bodies were shuffling slowly towards a pre-arranged rendezvous

NO!  Not there.

HERE PERHAPS ?

YES... That's it .

Imagine, if you will,  ancient bodies shuffling slowly towards this building from all directions.  Picture a scene From "Sean of the Dead" or "Day of The Zombies". Think of the unsuspecting Preston folk gathered in this Medieval Priory (hardly that !!!)
Then, when all had gathered,  we realised that there were 13 people round the table. This did not bode well.   Was this to be our "LAST LUNCH"

Sorry ! Sorry ! I was getting carried away. My imagination running riot.  It was simply the Meanderthals gathering to celebrate James' 85th Birthday in the local Weatherspoon.

And here they are........
Mike   Danny   Harry

John R       Martin

Dave    Mick K

Harry              Anthony

Mick K   Jim C    James  Vic

John W

Anthony had organised an excellent lunch time,
A table booked and a "Cake" ordered.
He even used his 'phone to order meals for several of the lazy Meanderthals who couldn't be bothered to go to the bar themselves (including he who is writing this blog !)

The cake (or cakes) duly arrived complete with " 85 " in candles. HAPPY BIRTHDAY was written on the individual "Cakelets" and was duly sung.

A candle has gone out !

No worries it was quickly relit so that James could blow them out again. After which he rose to his feet to deliver a magnificent speech lasting all of 30 seconds. But it was a little gem.
Birthday Boy ( BOY ???)      Vic

I think James must have found the occasion very emotional as his eyes seem to have misted over.

Eyup !.. Eyes closed. Head bowed. Candles lit. This is lookin' a bit suspicious again.

…..and so the chatter continued for some while before we began to break up and find our separate ways home after a most convivial lunch gathering.

I think it was a fitting tribute to our oldest Meanderthal that all 13 of our regular walkers turned out to wish him well on his 85th birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES

NOT ...….THE END
