Meandanthonys Walk. Tour de Leyland. 6 miles

This weeks walk began from the car park of St Mary's Priory, on Broadfield Drive in             Leyland. From there we made our way along Lancastergate, past the Swimming Pool,           the Police Station and Tescoville, to the ancient Leyland Cross, Fountain and Water               Basin.

The first pedestrian entrance to Worden Park. We carried on along Worden Lane, to the          main entrance. Probably due to it being school half term, the car park was packed.

Worden Hall, one time home of the ffarington family. The gardens surrounding the hall are well looked after, but at this time of year there is not a lot to see. The Walled Garden and The Maze were closed, due to the pandemic

The first signs that Spring is on it's way
The western side of the park provides a pleasant woodland walk.
A fallen, decaying tree provided a welcome seat for an early dinnertime snack. Anthony has made friends with this mutt, but it's not yet a good enough friend for Anthony to share his butty with it. The dogs owner was calling to it from a distance but was being totally ignored, and eventually had to come back for it.

The woodland walk meandered alongside the Shaw Brook, which is a tributary of the River Lostock.
There were several bridges to cross, along the way, through the wood.
Leaving the park by way of a footpath skirting the edge of the Wade Hall estate. After passing a housing development site, we arrived at the Leyland by-pass (Shleswig Way). Crossing the roundabout, a quiet lane led to a footpath which was rather muddy in places.

Once passed the mud, the rest of the walk was on good paths alongside the River Lostock on both sides of the by-pass. We followed this path to Golden Hill Lane, from where it was but a short walk back to the cars.
