Ascent of Coniston Old Man via Dow Crag 10 miles Total Ascent 4750 ft

From the station car park, it was a steep climb up the road signposted Walna Scar and Seathwait.
Some old mine workings at the side of the road.

A popular start point for going up the Old Man and saving the steep climb out of the village.
Keeping straight ahead on Walna Scar road leads to a fairly level path heading for Dow Crag.

This is the summit cairn of Brown Pike 2298 ft
                                                 Ahead is Dow Crag.
To the right of the path is Blind Tarn.
                                           Looking back to Blind Tarn.
                                                            Dow Crag ahead.
                                                                 Dow Crag
A path leading off to the right awakened my sense of adventure. Four people are down there camouflaged among the rocks.
It transpired they were a family from preston. Dad, two daughters and son in law.

They kindly offered to take some photos of me.

                                                          This is Goats Water.

The path leading to The Old Man.

The day is warming up and vis improving. Coniston village and Water down below
Low water and the path down.                         The route down was through a more industrial setting.
