ASTLEY ATTRACTIONS
THE ATTRACTED :- JOHN, ANTHONY, PADDY, MIKE, JAMES.
Each week, when your photographer arrives home, he takes the memory card out of his camera and slips it into his laptop thus enabling the photos to be used in the blog. This week the fool forgot to take the memory card out of the computer and put it back into the camera. No memory card....No photos. Aaaaaaaaaaarrgh !!
Bad news this week which has left us agog
Danny crashed his car on a rather large log
(well a tree actually)
Off to the hospital to have all the checks.
Lots of scratches and bruises and VERY stiff necks.
How lucky they were with nothing severe
So whisper it long and whisper it clear
Yu never know !
Danny had been on a short break near the Dales. He was returning to the hired cottage after a walk near Malham when the incident occurred. His wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandchild where in the car with him. The car was written off but miraculously no-one was seriously injured.
The next few days were rather turbulent with phone calls from each to all. Wanting news. Offering help etc. So no walk had been planned. JW eventually decided that perhaps a day of gentle activities might fit the bill. We drove to Astley Park and had to go to the shop to buy our tickets for the hall £3.70 each. Ridiculously cheap.
ASTLEY HALL
Astley Park's a lovely place
with lots of things to do
So that is where we ended up
a rather puzzled crew
No walk was planned for us today
but that was not a worry
Out the car and into rain
C'mon we'd better hurry
π
To tour the Hall was our intent
with tickets first to buy
the man in the shop said with a smile
"Are you over 60"
We answered yes saying "look at us".
He winked and said "Oh Aye"
π
The tour of this lovely Hall
was really rather good
with lots of things to see and hear.
We listened as we should
A guide in every room we met
They told us all they knew
With history oozing from the walls
The tales were good..... but true ?
π΄π΄
With tales of Cromwell sleeping there
and Mary Queen of Scots
Signs and symbols everywhere
They really hit the spot.
♛
And when the tour was over
and smiles on every face
We left the house... to Cafe bound
Agreeing "That that was "Ace" "
☁☂☁
The cafe was quite good but rather busy and possibly a little overpriced. We normally prefer to have coffee and snacks in the yard outside but rain dictated otherwise.
π°ππ΄
Lunch chosen, ordered, paid for and consumed we trotted the short distance to the two large crown greens. Here we didn't so much play a game of bowls but rather had fun showing non bowlers what to do . Some found it all rather confusing with "The crown, bias, thumb and finger peg etc" , but we had some fun all bowling in turn trying to get closest to the jack (Wa's that ?)
To finish our outing (this being a walking group) we did a short (and I do mean short) walk back to the car.
πππππ
The figures above show us going back to the car....... That's a great big "FIB"
THE END
