Bolton Abbey. The Strid. More photos

The charge for parking seemed a bit steep at first, but as we  had seven between two cars, it was not too bad.

In the dark wood.

The river Wharf

A short walk brought us to ......

.....The Strid. A raging torrent, as a result of the recent heavy rainfall.

Don't step back Martin.

Having finished our first refreshment stop, we are ready to set off again.

These giant deckchairs belonging to the Cavendish cafe make this boy and his dog look out of perspective.

A short distance further on we found an unoccupied picnic table.
An opportunity not to be missed.

Bolton Abbey itself is situated in a very picturesque location. The religious order that arrived here all those centuries ago must have
also been likewise impressed.

Having crossed to the other side of the river, we headed back along the opposite bank, back towards The Strid. For those of us who have not fully matured, there were various obstacles to negotiate.

Anthony is disqualified for using an aid.

Vic had two points deducted for pushing in front of the children, but got them back again for entertaining their parents.

The paths on this walk, were very well maintained.

Another pause along the route.

Lud Island

Crossing back across the river.

The must have, but not very good, Meanderthals bridge shot.

Vic's trophy. A very dirty old hat he found along the way. There's no accounting for taste, but Vic being a retired accountant, must have seen some value in it.
If you ask me, its just old hat.
