Bromley Cross More Photos

How we all got to find our way to this car park, I don't know.
Given the lack of, and poor signposting, it was nothing short of a miracle. But here we are, ready to continue our adventure.

Up a lane opposite the car park, with a field alongside containing some very lively young horses, brought us to this juncture, from where, we only had a short trek to our first stop.

Last drop village. The name implies that it was once a place of execution, not so. It is a collection of old farm buildings, turned into a tourist attraction.

But a pleasant place to stop for our morning coffee. Thanks Paddy.

The next part of our walk was on a path around the perimeter of a golf course.

John's found something.

Lunch on Whittle Hill.

After lunch he marched us up to the top of the hill.

Then he marched us down again. (On the opposite side of course).

This old bank building, on Station Road Chapletown  looked at odds with the executive style houses all around.
The former bank, is now a dwelling but as can be seen, it has kept it's character.

Dave has been here before, and told us that the last time he was here, the bridge crossing here had been washed away in a flood.
It has now been tastefully restored

The walk alongside the river was very pleasant, and popular with dog walkers.

After negotiating a weir the river entered a disused quarry where it widened out and became much calmer, before passing under a bridge and widening once more as it became the Jumbles Reservoir.

After passing the reservoir we descended into the valley and crossed the outflow channel below the dam. Climbing back up on the other side of the valley, via some very precarious steps, followed by another climb up a pleasant lane which tested the stamina of some of our less able members, we were soon back at the car park. Phew!
