LYTHAM

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN  6.5 Miles

Walkers  :-  Mike, Vic, Martin, John W
                    Anthony, Danny, Paddy.

Just off the main road as it enters Lytham and a right turn over a railway bridge took us to a quiet side street with plenty of parking where we  have parked several times before. So here we parked again.

Please keep this to yourselves but after stressing the importance of SIX ..  today we found ourselves to be a group of SEVEN ! Promising to practise social distancing of course we set off on our walk. Out of the side street and over the rail bridge to the main road.

Only a few minutes and we found ourselves on the promenade in a rather gloomy, damp morning.

With a thin drizzle filling the air we tramped off towards Lytham's iconic Windmill.

The paths either side of the green were busy with both normal and dog walkers. By the time we were passing the old lifeboat station the slight rain was beginning to ease.

With seated shelters at intervals along the prom it was easy to find a spot for our coffee break. Not quite so easy to find a dry seat though. That is until two charming young ladies stood up and said " We're leaving but we've dried a couple of spots for you." .....and so they had. COFFEE TIME.

Just before coffee break we had passed the new lifeboat station.

Wherever we walked there were abundant wild flowers in full bloom. Can you identify them ?

Lost at Sea ?  Well certainly at sea and not found but more likely "FOUND-ered". A rather large but unhappy boat.

There were wrecks of  a different kind on dry land. Ancient tractors. Some abandoned but others still seemingly in use for cockle or shrimp fishing ?  (Purely a surmise.)

No ! Not those two old wrecks .
These below.

We were now walking on the NEW part of the promenade. Closed to the public for months it is now a very impressive new prom and flood barrier.

After ten years of weekly wanderings (16 years  in some cases) we have criss-crossed a large percentage of our part of Lancashire. On many walk we have discovered good spots to stop for lunch. Today the spot was going to be Fairhaven Lake.

and here we are following the bank towards the "Spitefire" end of the lake.

Excellent - sufficient dry seating to accommodate  us all, including two young ladies from Crewe who were happy for us to share the benches with them.

Whilst taking the following photo your writer couldn't help quietly humming the song "Wimohway" - Do you remember it ?

Lunch over we could hardly depart without visiting the Spitfire.

We had to share the area with another large group of expert flyers.

Can't understand why there was a bomb with a Spitfire. Perhaps I should have read the information boards.

What's this ?  No-one said there was a hill !!

Our walk now became something of a "trudge" as we followed the roads back towards Lytham High Street.

Back past the main part of Fairhaven Lake. There were , however, rewards along the way. As we passed "Stella Matutina" Care Home we met an old friend - Anne, who often asks Anthony and John W to come to the home to play the music and lead sing-songs for the residents.
Lowther Park was also a welcome break . TOILETS ! You will remember that the group is composed of elderly gentlemen (I use the word gentlemen advisedly) and there were picnic benches for our afternoon coffee/tea break.

Lowther gardens are themselves little gems worth a visit.

I'm sure Danny will be showing us what he was taking a photo of.

And so on through the centre of Lytham and back to the cars.

Back at the cars Martin once again didn't  just provide us with chilled drinks but icecreams again. THANKS !

Thanks for the walk Anthony . Lots of interest throughout.

THE END

p.s.  On our walk today we actually saw something that moved more slowly than we did. Mind you it was about to put it's "go faster" trainers on.

p.p.s. I hope our readers saw in the photos that we did indeed keep our distance from one another (mostly !)
