I THINK BEFORE WRITING TODAYS BLOG IT WOULD BE INAPPROPRIATE NOT TO PAY OUR RESPECTS ON HEARING OF THE DEATH OF THE QUEEN WHO HAS BEEN OUR QUEEN FOR ALMOST THE ENTIRETY OF THE LIVES OF ALL THE MEANDERTHALS.

PEDAL PUSHERS PROGRESS 19.5 Miles
PEDALLERS :- John R, John W, Mike,
Danny, Anthony, Jim.
We started our day by meeting at Mike's
Meanderthals six. Along with their bikes.
Gathered together we're soon on our way.
Left onto Eastway and then Motorway.
Travelling North, then turn right for Caton
To Bullbeck car park with "Great expectation"
Bikes unloaded and then off we go
Our leader quite wisely says "Start it quite slow"
Over the road and down to the track
It's raining right now but we're not turning back.
Slowly or not it's really quite soon
Before we arrive at a bridge o'er the Lune
Under the Motorway, our bikers "Flash" by.
Perhaps the word "flash" isn't right. Wonder why ?
Past "Crook O' Lune" and now somewhat faster.
But don't go too quickly, Avoid a disaster.
Wherever we go . Whatever our course is
We share it with cyclists, with walkers and HORSES !
The rain is still falling and shelter we look for
To have tea or coffee and perhaps something more
(a banana)
We've now got to Lancaster without any hitch
Millenium Bridge will help us to switch
To the riverbank opposite which now we will follow
The old railway line goes to Morecambe we know.
Crossing the Millenium Bridge
The old railway line's now a bicycle routeWith a rather tight gate you must pass through on foot
( I know, I know. It doesn't rhyme - try fooot)
And so to the seaside and the jetty of stone Where there's tea and coffee and a hot buttered "scone"
(pronounce "scone" the posh way, We didn't have one anyway)
(These old fellas ! Worse than teenagers with their phones.)
(Our leader looks reluctant to leave his welcome brew)
Back down the jetty passed boulders and birdsTowards the hotel that's too posh for words
Art Deco it is and it's fame is widespread
We can't go in there or we'll lose our street cred.
(have we got any ?)
Happy Mount Park not far up the prom
and we know that in there will be seats to sit on
The park looked a treat with it's "Manicured" grassand such colourful beds even though summer's past
With sandwiches eaten and flasks put away With pedals revolving we're back on our way
Up to Hest Bank the canal we will find
The sky's turning blue. The rain's left behind
Danny turns round to check all is wellSo far we're "Good" but the next stretch will tell
The towpath is rough with many a bender
The legs are OK but the backsides get tender.
With holes, stones and ridges too many to mentionJim Cullen's good steed needs "roadside" attention
(well...... canal side really)
We've seen this before but it's worth a second chuckle(only a small one mind)
Next comes the aqueduct over the river But look ! That reflection's got hardly a quiver
They cross one by one going over the valleyand now we are nearing the end of our "Sally"
The aqueduct now is high over our heads
and it's not far now for our tiring legs
A brief rest now when we reach the Lune's "Crook"and Ingleborough's there in the distance just look
(very faint. top left. C'mon pigeon .Shift !)
Down to the river flowing smoothly below
We view from the bridge then homeward we go
The day was damp our spirits not. The miles just seemed to fly
Well done Mike you led us well. Another ride ? "Och Aye"
(That's Scottish for "of course")
Load up the bikes make them safe and secure.and here's to the next . There'll be one for sure.
Well done Mike
THE END
p.s. Some might think there was a little cheating........
............ that's John's ELECTRIC bike.
