MEANDERTHALS REMEMBER 2

FIVE BARRED HIGH DIVE

James remembers :- April 26th 2018

Part way through one of our walks (near Chorley) we arrived at a barbed wire fence. The path showed on the map as going straight on through the gate at which we had arrived. The gate however was firmly padlocked (a bit naughty that !) Our bold, superfit octogenarian (James) decided to climb over the gate.  Which he did. As he did so there came a cry "There's a stile over there." Indeed there was. About fifty metres away. Our octogenarian not realising that the stile led into the same field  began to climb back over the gate.

As he stood on the very top he lost his balance and plunged backwards to the ground with a sickening "THUD".  Thinking that he was almost certainly injured the group rushed across to help. It took him a little while to regain his composure before he dragged himself to his feet and declared himself, much to the groups surprise and consternation, fine to carry on. It seems he had fallen flat on his back and his rucksack had taken the brunt of the fall.
ALL WAS WELL.  Well not exactly. When we stopped for lunch our "Tumbler" found the contents of his rucksack in a terrible state with his "Butty Box" in tiny pieces.

In breaking his fall,  the falls energy had virtually exploded the rucksacks contents. Although James continued with the walk saying he was Ok  in fact he fond later that he was in some pain and had to undergo "Physio" for several weeks before returning to the group.
