Not a lot of People know this

MEANDERTHALS UNVEILED

It is not widely known that some members of our walking group have inspired some well known pieces from the world of  literature, music and art.

James

One of Roald Dhal's lesser known books "James and the giant Beech". This is a tale of a boy who from his early years faced the future with undaunted optimism and through sheer grit and determination climbs to the very top.

Danny

I am sure everyone knows the iconic song "The Derry Aire"  ( "Londonderry Aire " to those of the unionist persuasion). But few could realise that the song's hero is our own "Danny Boy". The clue is in the first line.
"Oh Danny Boy the pipes the pipes are calling." -  Danny was a central heating engineer

Paddy

The late and much lamented Val Doonican sang many warm and popular songs as well as a selection of comic ones. Non was more amusing that that well known ballad featuring our good Irish friendl. - The song "Paddy McGinty's Boat". tells the hilarious sequence of events after Paddy mistakenly buys a rusty old Tug Boat instead of the sleek, handsome yacht he had promised himself.

John R

John R is very modest about his achievements as a "Thespian". He started in a minor role as the 5th fireman in "Trumpton" .   ("Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubbe".)  He went on to a significant character part in "Fireman Sam".  and before retiring he was offered the role as "Parker"  Lady Penelope's chauffeur in "Thunderbirds". He turned this down as he preferred to work with no strings attached.

Martin

In recent months Martin has been sending our members lots of quizzes and puzzles. Perhaps he is being  influenced by one of Charles Dicken's lesser known characters "Martin Puzzle-wit".

p.s.

After being unable to attend the last two walks your contributor suffered withdrawal symptoms and just had to turn his mind to something. Hence this little bit of nonsense.
