Ascent of Pike O' Stickle and Harrison Stickle. Walkers Michael D and Danny K

8 30 Kitted up and ready to set off on our walk from the Old Dungeon Gill. But which walk? Crinkle Crags or Pike O' Stickle?
Michael suggested that we would be more likely to get the benefit
of the early morning sun by opting for the latter. So we did.

The suns rays were already lighting up the nearby hills as we set off along the Langdale Valley.

Pik O' Stickle (our objective) on the left, and Loft Crag to the right.

The bright winter sun was casting long shadows, but giving little in the way of warmth. But as there was very little breeze, the first part of our walk was very pleasant.

Crinkle Crags, a good part of which was in shadow, leading us to believe we had made the right choice.

The first part of our ascent was steep and difficult. The path had been buried under scree.

Having arrived at the snow line, caution was needed.

The rounded summit of Great Gable came into view, to the right of the photo.

And the snow covered peaks of the Skiddaw Range.

The milky sun sitting on the top of Pike o' Stickle.

A treacherous looking gully beckoned us not at all.

11 30. Finding a pleasant sheltered spot with amazing views, we opted for an early lunch.

Across the valley is Harrison Stickle. We decide to make it our next objective. The snow and ice was making walking difficult, but Michael had come prepared, and decided to try out his new crampons, which he declared to be an inspired purchase.

Michael, sporting his new crampons. Next to him the cairn
(in the process of construction I hope), on the summit of Harrison Stickle.

The route down to Stickle Tarn was slow and careful for myself, but Michael found the going much easier with his crampons on.

The steps in places were too slippery to walk on.

But not for Michael.

Stickle Tarn with the crags of Pavey Ark rising up in the background. Very popular with climbers, Michael tells me.

Back below the snow level again, progress was much quicker.

The must have bridge photo.

Back at the Old Dungeon Gill for 3.30 at the end of a spectacular walk. Seven and a half miles. Thanks Michael. ðŸ™‹
