Nearing Windermere, the decision had to be made. West to the Langdales or east over the Kirkstone Pass. We opted for the latter. We parked on this car park alongside the A592. |
By 8.20 we were kitted up and on our way. Just a short distance back along the road towards Windermere we crossed over the road and headed towards the unspoiled hamlet of Hartsop. |
Hayeswater Gill |
Leaving Hartsop the sun had not yet risen as we began a long climb up a well made farm track. |
The sun was lighting up the Helvelyn Range in the Background but we were still in the shade. |
The compulsory bridge shot with our objective, High Street behind, but still the sun was eluding us. |
Hayeswater. |
The fells around us were bathed in sunshine, but not us. Michael suggested that the sun was playing games with us. |
Satura Crag |
10. 05 reaching the top of a rise, we were taken by surprise as the winter sun hit us with blinding force. Yipee. |
Kidsty Pike, which Michael informed me is the highest point on the coast to coast. Haweswater is just visible in the valley below. |

10. 30, sheltering from the wind we had a late brew on High Street. |
Reaching the trig point, having seen no other walkers all morning, as if by magic a prospective photographer was heading our way. |
