Glasson to Thurnham

Leaving the dock basin at Glasson, the first part of our walk was along the canal that links Glasson Dock with the Lancaster Canal.

An unusual but not unique vessel moored up alongside the towpath.

I recall seeing two similar lifeboats on the Leeds - Liverpool canal,

The first of two herons on the opposite bank, that we passed along the way. This one was having a scratch.
This was the other majestic bird.
The must have bridge shot. I couldn't get a smile out of any of them.

Two young cygnets, the plumage of which has not yet turned white.

The overgrown bridge we had to cross. Not a very well used bridge apparently.

This is the Gillow family tomb in the Roman Catholic churchyard of Saints Thomas and Elizabeth at Thurnham. Although the tomb is making a massive statement, paradoxically there is no indication on the tomb as to who lies within.

The nearby Thurnham Hall, once the seat of the Dalton family

The rest of the walk was across fields, and along narrow country lanes.
With Glasson Marina in view, it was a short downhill walk back to the carpark and refreshments, once again provided by Martin. Thanks pal.
